YHA - Booking & reservation approach modified     Fri, 10 Feb 2006 17:55:02 GMT
This one's may raise a few hackles! I've just booked several nights at 3 hostels during the summer.Total cost approx ¡ê250 Max cost for any 1 hostel - say ¡ê95 This year I was told by each hostel that as the booking is for less than ¡ê100, it had to be paid for at the time of booking! Now as I'd spent a c ...

Just received in this morning's post 'Great accommodation, Great locations' - pricing information from March 2006. Contains a new bookmark with Opening times and Price information, latter being a guide only. Also a pamphlet which has on page 4 'Offa's Dyke Guesthouses' which states "As well as existing Y ...

Staying at the hostels before they close     Tue, 7 Feb 2006 21:33:12 -0000
I've been mulling over whether there is anything "grass roots" that can be done to save some of these hostels. What if as many people as possible (YHA Local group members and their friends, other groups such as CTC and Ramblers, individuals and families etc etc) try to visit these hostels sometime before th ...

YHA meetings about the closures     Sun, 5 Feb 2006 22:18:13 -0000
Hi, I'm new to this newsgroup - what prompted me to put in my 2p here is the proposed hostel closures. I attended the YHA meeting in London last Thursday. Around 60 to 70 people were at the meeting including some YHA local groups, CTC and Ramblers plus other concerned ordinary members. From the YHA th ...

1 in 7 YHAs to close     31 Jan 2006 17:38:58 -0800
What can I say. 1 in 7 hostels are closing over the next 3 years. That's shocking, but I must also say I'm not that surprised. I was expecting more closure announcements to come. The hints have all been there in the last couple of years. YHA have been leading us up to it. The 'body language' was all there. Ob ...

Trying to Find Accommodation.     Fri, 20 Jan 2006 12:04:43 +0000
My first port of call, is of course the YHA website -www.yha.org.uk. It all looks easy at first. I see the list of hostels down the side and click the "book now" button. Of course now will work unless I've disabled my security features and are willing and are willing to run someway elses scripts/programmes ...
