Governance Review - leading questions?
19 Oct 2006 22:45:04 -0700
Do I have much faith in the upcoming governance review?
No.
Why?
The consultation paper is leading the reader to a distinct preferred
solution. It is clear from the paper that nationally elected trustees
are preferred via application and interview (and then short-listed for
election at the National AGM, with ...

What the stars mean...

I posted this ages and ages ago and although I don't want to revisit old
ground here's a slightly out of date specification for star ratings...

I don't know if any local group members get on here, but if there is,
here is an item of interest. I have tried to interest two people who I
know who are with COPSE and their committee but there seems to be a
certain sense of caution when dealing with Intern ...

Ivinghoe
Mon, 16 Oct 2006 22:16:59 +0100
I stayed at Ivinghoe on Saturday night and can't for the life of me see
why the YHA are closing it. The stated reason apparently is that it's a
one star hostel and it would cost too much to bring it up to a three
star standard. This might be true, depending on what that standard
entails; however only two c ...

Hostelling - is there future for YHA?
5 Oct 2006 01:26:48 -0700
I've just been reading an interesting article about the hostel industry
today. The author is part of independent chain Euro-Hostels, and the
article is somewhat biased in favour of his style of independent
hostel.
However, it's apparent from the way the author describes the style of
HI hostels that he's not ...

Kemsing YH last weekend

staying at the hostel for effectively it's last night attended a
funeral service in the village high street on Saturday afternoon about
16:00.
The funeral cortege was led by John Anette and other members of COPSE
carrying a coffin marked up g ...

Governance Review - have your say
25 Sep 2006 02:07:58 -0700
I expect there's something about this buried on the official YHA site
somewhere, but it's front page news on mine! YHA are (supposedly)
seeking members' feedback in the initial stage of a review of its
governing structure. Not seeking it very actively, of course, but
seeking it nonetheless.
You can find out m ...

Group visits only
Sat, 23 Sep 2006 08:10:54 +0100
Just noticed this on the Gradbach Mill page
(http://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/hostelpages/3010.html)
"Gradbach Mill is predominantly a group visit only hostel"
I hadn't spotted that before. What other hostels are group visit only?
And what exactly does "predominantly group visit only" mean? At first
sight it a ...
