Linear Moorings, are they a bleeding nuisance?     Wed, 28 Oct 2009 09:53:16 +0000
BW seem to want to shunt those on linear moorings into marinas. I see these moorings as a good thing: 1. Preventing bank erosion. 2. Slowing speeding boats, see above. 3. The occupants are acting, unpaid lengths(wo)men, see above. BW are at it at Audlem, it seems: http://www.crewechronicle.co.uk/crewe-news/l ...

Limehouse Dock / Marina     Wed, 28 Oct 2009 02:50:25 -0700 (PDT)
Visited that yesterday and was surprised how small it is. Wasn't it a major trans-shipment dock for goods between sailing ships and narrow boats / barges? Anyway there are now three entrances/exits - to the Thames, Limehouse Cut and the River Lee, and the Regents Canal to Kings Cross and ultimately Paddington e ...

Grey Mullet.     Fri, 23 Oct 2009 10:03:00 -0700 (PDT)
Listening on the car radio to a play this afternoon, in fact only broke into it about halfway through to catch a very lateral bit of thinking, a kind of conundrum which the more I thought about the more over heated the brain got. For some reason the girl in the play was frightened of flying with all the bomb th ...

Messrs Google have kindly permitted me to make available on my website a copy of the early nineteenth century Sailing Directions for the Shannon Estuary and for Loughs Derg, Ree and Erne. These Directions were compiled by Commander James Wolfe RN between 1835 and 1848 and should not be relied on for navigation, bu ...

Disgusted! Tonbridge Wells.     Thu, 22 Oct 2009 09:10:44 -0700 (PDT)
Have just read a ?Disgusted!! Tonbridge Wells? readers letter in this months issue of Waterways World and wonder with a grunt of despair if it is only me who is somewhat out of sync with the aspirations and expectations of what seems to be a new breed of boater coming on to these waterways, often with a new boat ...
