As a mere lad, my classic litarary attempts of reading never reached
any higher than that of those red bound William books. There must have
been about fifteen of them. My great scruffy anarchic hero 'Just
William' and his band of Outlaws, Ginger,Henry and Douglas, not
forgetting the dreadfully spoilt little brat V ...

latest week-stoke bruerne-towpath walking

I always used to think that you saw everything on the boat...but this years
towpath walking holiday on the GU (over 46 miles in the week.... I'me back
home for a rest!) showed just what can be missed. Even found a very small

Thurmaston lock has been closed all day, with around 20 police vehicles, an
underwater team and an ambulance (?) after a body was found this morning
Another body has been recovered near Belgrave lock this afternoon so the
canal is shut from there down to the Hope and Anchor in Syston

Fishermen!!! As soon as I spot a line of fishermen ahead there is
that feeling of foreboding. Having to run a gauntlet of scowls, no eye
contact, and sometimes verbal abuse, rarely the odd smile and friendly
nod.
