Peter and Fred.
Wed, 2 Sep 2009 04:39:35 -0700 (PDT)
Was in a little pub a couple of days ago which in its way became a
kind of shrine for steam men. When I say steam men the I mean the coal
dust and oil splattered traction engine and steam roller fraternity
of the North West. Thoughts went straight to Froudy, the incomparable
and larger than life Peter Froud, who ...

Boat horse lanes and paths
Mon, 31 Aug 2009 00:22:03 -0700 (PDT)

waymarkers. The Watford/Crick tunnel boat horse path was impossible to
find, After failing to progress on the line of the tunnel from Crick
we found Boat horse lane which was a clue then walked the Watford road
but passed the overgrown track just pa ...

Priorities!
Fri, 28 Aug 2009 05:38:25 -0700 (PDT)
Reckon things must be getting desperate for BW with the ever ongoing
maintenance task of having to keep on top of such an ageing canal
system. With major breaches this summer on the Llangollan and the
Shropshire Union, the former the most popular holiday canal in the UK
and the Shroppie being part of the essential ...

Not a waterway: the West Clare Railway's restored steam engine
Wed, 26 Aug 2009 17:52:26 +0100
Because L T C Rolt took a trip on the West Clare Railway at the end of
his Irish waterways trip, I felt justified in putting up a page about
the project. I have now been back to Moyasta Junction, where the
restored 117-year-old Slieve Callan narrow-gauge steam locomotive is
now running on a small length of track. ...

Aylesbury Basin
Wed, 26 Aug 2009 15:50:41 +0100
I was in Aylesbury yesterday and it occurred to me that whilst I had
walked most of the Aylesbury arm, I had never actually seen the basin
and so, having a few minutes to spare...
Walking from the equivalent of the town hall, I spied a new Arts
building being erected (typical ugly modern monstrosity) which my ...

The Anner canal: a forgotten Irish navigation?
Tue, 25 Aug 2009 23:53:37 +0100
Just east of the Bulmers factory in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, Ireland,
the River Anner runs southwards to its confluence with the River Suir.
A short distance north of the N24 (the road to Waterford), a canal
separates off from the river and runs down the far side of a field,
passing under the N24 a short distance to ...

Could you lend support to disabled waterways people?
Tue, 25 Aug 2009 08:02:21 -0700 (PDT)
Hi all,
I notice from the group's description it is for 'discussing British
waterways.'
I would like to bring to your attention an issue facing Rudyard
Sailability - a charity based on a British Waterways lake.
Basically, they are facing stalemate in their ambition to have a
disabled accessible boathouse - ...
