Mytchett Pound ? Open
Deepcut Flight ? Closed
Water supply to this Flight remains a problem due to a dry spring and
summer with little rainfall. Lock gates that require repair and or
replacement, will have this carried out over the coming months. There
is still a huge backlog of maintenance to catch up on but so ...

A bit of nothing.
Mon, 28 Sep 2009 08:30:52 -0700 (PDT)
It was time to sit down for a think, a bit of contemplating, after one
of those high tension days of hassle in this over regulated, full
speed digitalised society we now live in.
Undoing the padlock and opening up the back cabin doors, that special
boaty aroma, a mixture of diesel, paraffin, coal, soot, blue toile ...

Fri, 25 Sep 2009 03:28:42 -0700 (PDT)
?Oops! we?re low on fuel. Where?s the next the next boatyard on
Nicholsons??
?Sorry, we don?t sell diesel anymore.? comes the now familiar reply
after mooring up at the yard, and after chugging five miles out of
your way. It?s a response we are hearing more and more and who can
blame them with all that stupid ...

Probably not a canal
Tue, 22 Sep 2009 03:15:05 +0100
The fall of the Shannon is concentrated between Killaloe, at the
bottom of Lough Derg, and Limerick, at the head of the Shannon
Estuary. It is that fall, of almost 100 feet, that made possible the
construction of the hydroelectric power station at Ardnacrusha in the
1920s. Its designers were not the first people t ...

Wooden Narrowboat Plans
Sat, 19 Sep 2009 10:30:27 +0100
Hi all,
a friend is looking for a project and has hit upon the idea of building his
own narrowboat from wood. He's no slouch when it comes to the interweb but
he's spent ages browsing and found no plans and, without having the time to
research marine architecture to any great depth, he's not comfortable makin ...

Irish waterways loos
Sat, 19 Sep 2009 09:17:13 +0100
Some waterways loos. Not the modern ones built for leisure users, but
older ones built for people working on the waterways. I've only two so
far (plus a couple of modern blue plastic jobbies).

Economics of moving freight by canal
Fri, 18 Sep 2009 15:32:48 +0100
I was asked the other day two questions.
1. What weight can a 70ft canal boat carry?
(a) when canals were dredged to their designed depth
(b) The current depth of dredging.
2. How many miles per gallon of fuel can they do when loaded?
I was unable to answer any of these questions. Any thoughts would be
welcome. ...
