Sun, 30 Aug 2009 11:48:20 +0100

beginning of August. It was certainly a Vapourer moth. Now there is a
fascinating piece on them in the latest New Scientist (29 August 2009,
no. 2723) in the section "The Last Word" inside the back cover. Well
worth a look if, like me ...

Gang warfare in Dorset
Thu, 13 Aug 2009 11:50:28 +0100

kestrel. I've seen crows/rooks/ etc doing this, but never small birds.
They took care not to get too close!

Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:42:47 +0100
In Norfolk last week - on Sunday 2nd August at Cley and Cromer, there
were *billions* (not exaggerating) of seven spot ladybirds. The numbers
of dead ones underfoot suggested that the swarm had been present already
for a few days. In Cromer they were already being swept away to clear
the pavements.
