Sea shell identification please.
Mon, 18 Dec 2006 20:52:07 +0000
Over the last couple of days, some unusual shells have appeared on the
strand line on Praa Sands beach in west Cornwall, that I can't
identify from any of our shell books.
Very superficially, they resemble common flat-sided periwinkles
(Littorina littoralis). They vary in size from 1 to 2 cm in diameter,
so ...

I spotted these daffodils, growing wild at the side of the road, in
Perranwell, near Truro, today.

I noticed them this year on January 6th, so they have bloomed twice in 12

Early wild flowers
Thu, 14 Dec 2006 15:31:28 +0000
I was out walking with my wife this afternoon, in the vicinity of Wadebridge
in Cornwall.
I was struck by the number of "Campion" that I saw in flower. Also what I
thought were "Pignut" and on one plant, Blackberry flowers.
I take it this is unusual and possibly due to warmer winters. In our garden ...

Another wildflower for identification
Sun, 19 Nov 2006 02:50:54 GMT
Last one.
I waited over a month for the buds to open
and when they did was greeted with what appeared
to be a colourless, uninteresting looking mini dandelion clock.
If you an identify it, I'd be grateful.
Photo placed on hastily configured photo website,
'cos I went over my monthly upload limit on Flick ...

Request for wildflower identification
Mon, 13 Nov 2006 21:34:39 GMT
Hi all,
I've placed some photographs of English wildflowers on my Flickr
website. These are currently growing in my garden.
If any one can identify these, I'd be most grateful.
I've included in the photos the leaves as well as the
flowers, which may assist in identification.

Sperm whale
Sat, 11 Nov 2006 20:08:15 -0000
Anyone interested in these leviathans may like to view this unusual
footage of a sperm whale captured around about a depth of around 900 MSW
by an ROV operator working offshore in the Gulf of Mexico in March this
year. To my knowledge a whale of any species has never been filmed at
such a great depth before ...

Hedgehogs

Should they have hibernated yet?
The one round here looks big enough to hibernate but is still feeding on the
cats leftover breakfast food every evening.
