it was very sad news to here about the Cutty Sark being almost destroyed in
the fire, but it is also very sad news about another Clipper ship named the
CITY OF ADELAIDE which is also going to be destroyed by North Ayrshire
Council and the Scottish Maritime Heritage.

Peacock caterpillars

Can someone enlighten me.
First I am really pleased to be finding more nests of Peacock butterfly
caterpillars than for several years.
I have watched these swarms grow, but then they seem to drastically thin
out, leaving behind loads of shrivelled skins.
Is this an indication that they have been parasitis ...

Flowers of Iberian Peninsula

Can anybody recommend a good, modern field guide to the flowers of the
Iberian peninsula?
I've just returned from holiday in the Sierra Aracena, NW of Seville -
the wild flowers where spectacular but most aren't in NW Europe or
Alpine guides I already have.
I do have a copy of "Flowers of the Mediterranean", ...

Log pile advice

My first posting to this NG - not sure if it's OT, feel free to suggest
alternative places to ask.
We've had a logpile in the garden for a few years, which we added to last
winter. We now think it's rather too large for its location, so we want to
move it to another part of the garden.

Holly Blue

I have a couple of Holly trees in my garden and we are close
to a wood where it is common. I have always asssumed the
blue butterflies that always appear are Holly Blues.
Today Iwas able to see one very close. It appeared to be laying
it's eggs on a green holly berry.
Does this match the habit of a Holly Blue? ...
