Sodding point motors
Sun, 09 Aug 2009 13:48:21 +0100
I've just spent three hours failing to get one pair of point motors to
work. They work fine off the layout, the points work fine without the
motors, but once the motors are on the points they simply will not
move, despite careful measurement and any amount of adjustment.
Part of it is, of course, using Peco mot ...

Brilliant Baseboards

Has anyone here used Brilliant Baseboards? I've seen them at exhibitions
and been impressed.
I have a specific question regarding them. I've tried e-mailing Ray but it
looks like he is on vacation because I'm not getting a reply. I'm planning
a shelf layout where the main shelf width will be 30cm but th ...

Transfer sidings
Wed, 05 Aug 2009 20:27:12 +0100
Does anyone have any nice pictures of transfer sidings between narrow
gauge and standard gauge in the UK? I'm not even sure if it would be
prototypically right, but the little men have expressed interest in a
narrow gauge mine or quarry working meeting the branch line, and who
am I to argue?

TV/Radio Interference
Wed, 5 Aug 2009 05:13:20 -0700 (PDT)
The question of our models causing interference crops up occasionally.
This months EMC Journal http://www.compliance-club.com/ has a
breakdown of *proven* interference cases investigated by OFCOM
(bananaskins column).
Needless to say, model railways do not feature in the list.
There's an interesting comment ...

Turntables
Sat, 01 Aug 2009 18:21:20 +0100
I'd like to fit a small turntable at the end of my branch line, but
I'm having some difficulty finding any OO kits shorter than 270mm. It
only needs to fit an N2 at the longest, no more than 150mm over
buffers. Google's not helping much. Does anyone know of any
commercially available kits for shorter deck turnt ...

Finescale question
Sat, 01 Aug 2009 17:20:29 +0100
Just out of interest, how do finescale modellers typically join
sections of track to allow thermal expansion? Obviously the usual
rail joiners are not going to look right. Also, do you get problems
with the soldered joints onto the pins breaking?
