Analogue controllers?
Sat, 22 Aug 2009 11:36:37 +0100
It's been a while, but I've been slowly building the layout nonetheless.
I'm now fixing and powering the track, and have the up/down lines
finished, and now working on the sidings/goods yard.
I made a control board up myself, using bits of wood and hardboard from
the shed, and mounted two of the late Hornby co ...

Hornby or Triang very large scale (Late 1960s?)
Thu, 20 Aug 2009 10:32:53 -0700
I have a recollection that in the mid to late 1960s either Hornby or Triang
advertised a large gauge, larger than '0' scale, designed for the garden. I
can find nothing on line. Does anyone else recall this or am I mistaking it
for a venture by one of them into '0' scale?

Have just heard from Heljan that the promised replacement chassis for the
class 17 Clayton diesels should be available no later than 1st Novermber -
rather later than the 6-8 weeks promised back in May.
Hopefully they'll be worth the wait though.

A newbie and a new N scale layout
Wed, 19 Aug 2009 20:15:56 +0100
I've had never entertained the thought that one day I might build my own
layout but the day that I will actually start such a project is almost upon
me. I say me, I should say "us" because I have a wife who seems just as
excited about it as me.
We have a spare box room set aside (not needed for anything and ...

The old chestnut -- DCC
Wed, 19 Aug 2009 06:35:05 -0700 (PDT)
Well being in mid scrap of my DC system and having sold off most of
the locos it occurs to me that I can still have a smaller outfit and
try this DCC lark. Question! Which is the state of the art and
recommended kit?

Romfords B2B
Tue, 18 Aug 2009 21:50:35 +0100
Coal tank (0-6-2) chassis was derailing on not too tight curves, found
wheels were very tight fit. Tried usual things - ensured axles properly in
wheels, plenty of side play, then checked B2B and found it was at least
.75mm wider than other kit romfords.
Compared axles with others and nothing strange there, the ...
