Some preliminary tests for a two spindle CNC     Sat, 06 Sep 2008 05:40:44 GMT
Over in the RCM group I asked about the feasbility of using a master slave relationship in a CNC lathe so a part could be machined on one end and then switched from one chuck to another while spinning so the back half of the part could be machined. Below is the post I made to RCM with the first test results. Af ...

Ground steel discs     Fri, 05 Sep 2008 00:48:26 +0000
Any ideas as to where I might source a quantity of such things, around 50mm diameter. Washers would do - the only requirement is that they're flat and probably not more than around 5mm thick. I have a Glanze 16mm SCLCR boring bar that I need to shorten and slightly reduce the diameter at the non-business end so that I can fit it into my boring head (I couldn't find 5/8" bars anywhere). Before I destroy any tooling, anyone know if these are hardened? OK, I could try the file test but I thought I wou ...

Lead, "Dead Blow" Hammer     Thu, 4 Sep 2008 01:38:56 -0700 (PDT)
My cheap "forged steel shaft" claw hammer decided to break yesterday when trying to remove a smallish :-) nail. It left me with a "cushioned grip" handle which I thought I might use to make a lead "dead blow" hammer. Is it worthwhile these days or do those plastic and lead shot things you can get for tuppence work ...
