Austin, Andy (houstonceng) and I have been pooling our thoughts, off-
group, on a the design for a 3 button reversing starter which has been
finalised (until somebody reports an error).

Elliot boring head problem
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 19:42:45 +0100
I'm getting ready to do a boring job on the mill and I am trying to set up
my boring head, Elliot 1/2 to 12" type, and the damn thing appears to be
seized up. I've removed the large grub screw from the side that would appear
to lock the slide and I've removed the large diameter 'plug' that threads
into the sli ...

Berwick St. John country fayre - 13th & 14th September
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 08:20:15 -0700 (PDT)
I've been several times with the family and we've thoroughly enjoyed
it. It's a mini version of Stourpaine - lots of the exhibitors from

raffle tickets), friendly and you don't have to walk five miles from
where you've parked the car. I've boug ...

Assembling a preloaded milling spindle
31 Aug 2008 12:17:12 +0100 (BST)
I have been restoring a Westbury (original form) milling machine and
have just about finished with the spindle group. On reassembling it
appears that the angular contact races should be preloaded. However,
I have no idea how much preload to apply as I've not come across angular
contact ball races before.

Oxy/Acetylene - Any cheaper alternative to BOC
Sat, 30 Aug 2008 10:38:29 -0700 (PDT)
Hi all
Does anyone know if there's a cheaper way of setting up an Oxy/
Acetylene welding/brazing kit, than hiring bottles from BOC.
I have the rest of the kit - burners, goggles, regulators, hoses, anti-
flashback units, etc, etc - from the last time may late Dad and I did
serious gas welding (circa 16 years ...

digital ME
Fri, 29 Aug 2008 21:21:41 GMT
Am I dreaming or is there a possibility that Magicalia (knock forehead to
ground), which is a digital publisher, would put out Model Engineer in
digital form like <National Geographic> - about 100 years for a hundred
bucks? Would certainly save a lot of frustration for many - especially if
it was searchable.
