Moore and wright protractor repair

Managed to get myself a good cond bevel protractor ,on recieveing it i
have realised that the bevel lock does not function rendering the
instrument pretty useless ,anyone have any experience of seperating
one of these tools and repairing ???Dont want to force anything ....... ...

Fan balance

I am trying to watch Wimbledon in this hot weather with a fan to cool me,
but the noise and vibration from the fan is distracting. Can anybody suggest
a methodical way of balancing the fan, or is the trial and error method of
attaching weights to the blades at random my only option?

Wakefield (Castrol) V oil

I have an old machine possibly from the 60's that specifies use of
Wakefield V oil in a dashpot. Wakefield was the forerunner to Castrol Oils.
Can anyone suggest what viscosity oil this might have been and a modern
equivalent.
I have tried some SAE30 motor oil and this does not give enough damping

Are Altivar VFD still available? I remember using couple of them long
time ago. They were ok, not great.
I now use ABB, FUJI or Hitachi vfds. They have much better built
quality.
