The ever shrinking shed gets another project.
Tue, 28 Jul 2009 22:51:23 +0100
A week ago last Saturday I got an email from markj (aboard_epsilon) with the
URL of a Beaver slotting head that had appeared on Ebay.
Like a good little sheep, I didn't tell SWMBO that we weren't going to clear
the overdraft this month either. I promptly put a minimum bid on it to cancel
the Buy-it-now, then set ...

Powertwist Belt on Myford Super 7
Tue, 28 Jul 2009 09:23:49 -0700 (PDT)
In a search for increased smoothness at high speed, I recently
splashed out on a Fenner Powertwist V belt for the motor to
countershaft drive on my Super 7. Unfortunately my experience so far
is not good.
The old v belt is z section, nominally 10mm wide at the top of the
wedge. My pulleys have v grooves whic ...

Ebay gone mildly bonkers?
Tue, 28 Jul 2009 02:10:38 -0700 (PDT)
I put in a token bid for an item the other day, something I could make
good use of if it comes cheaply. It doesn't finish till next weekend
but checked this morning and they tell me "It's almost over and you're
currently the high bidder". Wow!! I'm excited!
Anyone else seeing this?

Triac and Mach3
Mon, 27 Jul 2009 17:12:56 -0700 (PDT)
I'm back on this one again, having made some changes and tried a few
things. The problem is a lack of accuracy, after a long program the
position drifts. I have replaced the computer, as it was playing up -
but I'm fairly sure that wasn't influencing the problems. I have also
calibrated the backlash in the lead ...

Female metric spline sleeve
Mon, 27 Jul 2009 11:17:01 +0100
I need a female spline sleeve to repair my flail mower - the female
spline has a major diameter of 20mm and has 24 splines about 30mm
long.
Amazingly the male splined shaft that mates with this is untouched -
there must be a big difference in the hardness of the two materials as
the female is virtually smooth n ...

Bridgeport Interact speed control valve
Sat, 25 Jul 2009 18:34:04 +0100
Has anyone ever had dealings with the re sealing of the valve that controls
the brake and speed control of an interact?
I need to know if the repair kit I was quoted ¡ê44 for is the going rate, or
if standard 'O' rings will do the job. The Valve is a Univer 1001.
Another question, I found it difficult, or mor ...

Grub Screw
Fri, 24 Jul 2009 22:56:34 -0700 (PDT)
I've just put my lathe (raglan 5") back together after a little
adjustment to improve the backlash in the feedscrew nuts. But one of
the locking screws for the topslide has a badly work hex in the end
and needs replacing. It's a 5/16"NC thread and 5/8" long, but almost
any length would do. Does anyone have an o ...

Looking for 6 off M20 x 220mm 12:9 HT bolts, plus real [1] nuts - any
ideas for a source?
Thanks,

[1] ie not "full" nuts that only fools would accept, but ones that are
at least 20 mm thick, and preferably thicker, eg 30 mm -
- just bought some M10 "full" nuts, which are 7.75 m ...
