Soldering hearth

I need to make a small hearth for silver soldering as I am losing most of
the heat from my blowlamp. I don't have any old fires to dismantle so I must
buy new refractory material to build it with. Is vermiculite as shown here

on a standard domestic ('Grundfos type') central heating pump. The

Nicely presented this year, apart from the cloudburst
at 0950 just as we were all driving onto the field.
A new Mamod 32mm live steamer, this time gas fired, and
at ¡ê199 is bound to give Roundhouse and Accucraft a run for
their money.

Slightly O.T. Soldering silver jewellery

SWMBO has asked me to attach a ring to the back of a silver broche so
that she can wear it as a pendant. The item in question is a flat
oval silver mount containing abalone shell. I can't see how to remove
the abalone (I guess it's glued in place), so I can't risk usng a lot

Smart and Brown model L bed geometry

Does anyone know is is able to measure the included angle in the front
bed guide of a Smart and Brown Model L lathe bed ? I already know the
other dimensions, but I need to understand if a slide from one of
these will fit my lathe bed which is of similar construction without
alteration.

Chester 920 or Warco 918 lathe spindle registers

Hi all.
Does anyone have either one of these lathes and could measure the
spindle nose thread and spindle register diameter and length for me ?
They may or may not be the same.
I've tried calling Warco and Chester, but neither could/would measure
a spindle nose or had the info to hand.
