GW have lost the plot.
Sat, 24 Oct 2009 18:36:29 +0100
Gardeners' World these days is for armchair gardeners
not hands-on gardeners .
Things started with Monty Don. He seems to have recovered
nicely judging from his recent appearance
on The One Show so I feel free to comment,
but dear old Monty was to gardening what
an art Historian is to Art - someone who appreciat ...

Dahlia excelsa - for David Hill
Sat, 24 Oct 2009 10:48:11 +0100
David, it's getting an awful battering today but 'your' Dahlia excelsa
is still flowering in three different places in the garden. It looks
absolutely wonderful and the colour is as bright and zinging as always.
Poor thing has definitely been rather tattered by autumn winds but it
battles on valiantly. Wha ...

viburnum suckering
Sat, 24 Oct 2009 10:09:16 +0100
I wonder if i can check something from anyone who knows.
A friend bought some time ago, a vib. Carlessii from Wisley, (she liked
the look apparently)
Anyway she planted it in front of a window................
Apart from that she suddenly asked which leader she ought to cut back so
it looked more like a tree. In ...

Ladybird nuisance
Sat, 24 Oct 2009 00:20:49 +0100
There's so many ladybirds. Even my nan can't remember anything like we
got this year.
Is it just our house or is everyone getting tons of the orange
ladybirds trying to get indoors? And we live in a very built up area
not in the fields. ...

Slot change for GW
Fri, 23 Oct 2009 23:11:58 +0100
Did I mis-hear this? It's being moved to 10.30 for the next 4 weeks.
Autumnwatch is moving to 8.30. This is NOT a good omen for GW, it
seems to me. I think Toby & co. are doing their real best and all know
their stuff. But something isn't right in the direction the programme
is taking. Oh dear.
It makes ...

Tree Stump
Fri, 23 Oct 2009 12:46:42 GMT
About 6 Years ago I had to have a 65' Eucalyptus cut down in my rear garden,
the roots were destabilising my path and garage floor, as well as my
neighbours pathway. I killed the stump off with the necessary chemicals and
it IS rotting away slowly. Does anyone know if there is any way to speed up
the rotting ( ...

Leaves
Fri, 23 Oct 2009 08:50:37 +0100
Am I doing the right thing by always burning and mulching my Maple
leaves?? I know it looks awful covering the lawn in Autumn. But does it
not feed the tree, and could I not put it under other less leafy trees
for food. Especially my Walnut?

Moving a Gooseberry bush
Thu, 22 Oct 2009 19:13:57 GMT
I have a 5/6 year old gooseberry bush that was planted on a slope. As
the bush has matured and got bigger with heavier crops it has started to
fall over. Tried staking it last year, but this year it has just leaned
further, now about 45 degrees!
Although it is quite big, I think I need to move it elsewhere. When ...
