Dog safe plants
Mon, 2 Nov 2009 19:20:37 -0000
Hi All
I want to make the garden look pretty but am aware that there are some
plants that are toxic to dogs... what plants are safe enough to grow around
a puppy? :)
I already have some plants in the garden that I know I have to be careful of
but am going to keep a keen eye on where the puppy goes :)

Westburg? (on country file last evening)
Mon, 2 Nov 2009 07:22:10 -0800 (PST)
Anyone watch country file last evening and catch the name of that
rather nice looking foresty place full of jap. maples and such like
(inc a strange birch)?
It sounded a bit like west-burg. No idea where though, missed that bit
entirely. ...

Egret orchids
2 Nov 2009 12:43:15 GMT
Anyone had any success with the (very pretty looking) egret orchids that
are advertised in most of the plant catalogues atm?
We got 6 either free or 'special offered' with something last year, and
they've done very poorly. I think 1 had a recognisable flower (which
was a lot smaller than I expected) and the res ...

Ladybird invasion
Sun, 1 Nov 2009 14:58:05 +0000
There's an article about it in yesterday's Daily Telegraph. They're
being found in huge numbers but many are the rotten furriners called
Harlequins. It's beginning to sound like a sort of red squirrel v.
grey squirrel thing.

'Autumn' cactus
Sun, 1 Nov 2009 14:51:07 +0000
We have a Christmas cactus type that is flowering now, very
prolifically. Ray brought it into the house yesterday and it's on an
east facing window sill, which isn't curtained. What we're wondering
is which variety it is and perhaps Kay - or others - will recognise the
description. The colour is a pinky cor ...

Re: OT : The Bird Feeder

I believe It's the duty of all civilized nations to take in these
primitive blood sucking savages. Winston Churchill
When they first sneaked into the country people said there's not that
many of them leave them alone. Years later people said be careful what
you say about them because they out number us!.

Probably not...
Sun, 1 Nov 2009 10:22:28 +0000
...much of a day for gardening today. It's lashed down with rain all
night and now it's blowing a hooligan. It was supposed to have gone
through in the night but little sign of it doing so at nearly 10.30am.

Taking Cuttings
Sat, 31 Oct 2009 19:16:41 -0000
A month or two ago I bought the necessary bits and pieces with a view to
taking cuttings. However due to faffing around I didn't.
Is it too late in the year now? I had in mind fuschia, hydrangea,
pelargoniums and suchlike.
