Recommended power generation
Wed, 18 Nov 2009 12:34:10 -0000
I had this e-mail today. I know that there are several people lurking here
who are only supplied by power generated from their own resources, so
include the text unmodified. I include his e-mail address, but politely
suggest that it is a thread that others might find both instructive &
enjoyable, so respondent ...

Hello
Could I call on the experience of the group and ask:
Following a complete strip down, degrease and derust, would you -
a) Prime individual parts, reassemble and then apply under and top coats to
the complete unit including nuts?
b) Prime, undercoat and top coat individual parts and then reassemble.

A useful tool
Tue, 17 Nov 2009 01:43:42 -0800 (PST)
For ages I've been trying to figure out how to torque up old nuts and
bolts. So far my options have been to replace them with new ones or
grab them with whatever will work and guess the torque.
Replacing them obviously looses the history and patina of the engine
and I know how important it is to keep things unrest ...

Oil filter search?
Mon, 16 Nov 2009 03:23:48 -0800 (PST)
Does anyone know of a source of info for comparing oil filter elements
by dimensions?
I need several obsolete paper elements, Croslands used to do them but
have discontinued (they are obtainable from the engine makers
{Kelvin} but at a silly price). If I can find something with similar,
maybe slightly sma ...

There is no maker's name at all, it has two 13 amp sockets & has a voltmeter

Too technical for SEM?
Tue, 10 Nov 2009 17:01:17 +0000
Reading Dan Howden's profile in this month's SEM, I was pleased to see
that he thinks there should be more technical articles. Now, some of you
may have seen my short (because of a paucity of information) piece on
'Systeme Loyal' in the previous issue - this has drawn comments from a
few individuals that it wa ...

OT What do you think of Biodiesel?
Tue, 10 Nov 2009 09:29:17 -0000
I have a Skoda Octavia 1.9 turbo diesel.
I notice that a local filling station is selling Biodiesel at about 15P a litre
cheaper than normal diesel. I must find out if it is 100% Bio or a mix.
What are your opinions regarding this as a fuel. Can it cause problems.
TIA

annoying than "have a nice day", especially when delivered in an aggressive
tone more appropriate to **** ***?
