Swarovski 10 x 42 EL objective lens covers
Tue, 19 May 2009 08:19:00 +0100
Anybody know where I can get Swarovski 10 x 42 EL objective lens covers?
I have googled and while eyepiece covers are not a problem, objective
lens covers don't seem to be readily available in the UK.
Thanks,

A cautionary tale
Mon, 18 May 2009 09:22:25 +0100
Picture this:
It is dawn, a land rover is parked by a lonely shore, an old but
ruggedly handsome (for it is I) birder dozes in the rear seat,
telephoto and telescope clamped to the window. suddenly something
moves and he is instantly awake, for it is a rarity, up close. Like a
stalking panther he takes the telep ...

Tit boxes
Mon, 18 May 2009 00:51:27 +0100
A few years ago I went on a mad frenzy of nest box building. I bought the
Chrus de Feu book ;-)
My treecreeper box up on my willow has never been used but the tit boxes
have been more successful,
My 25mm which was used every year by blue tits seems to be empty this year
and I thought the other two deeper one ...

second broods - Great Tits
Sun, 17 May 2009 20:06:31 +0100
Could someone possibly enlighten me as to the frequency of second broods
amongst Great Tits! How successful are they compared with first broods?
My pair had 9 eggs in their original nesting. Of these only four chicks
survived to fledge on the 14th. Then, for the next two nights the female
roosted in the box, ...

magpies
Fri, 15 May 2009 11:59:15 +0100
Farming Today had farmer saying reduce magpies by culling to increase
songbirds. RSPB said it has no effect. Looking at the activities of
the nowadays myriad magpies in and around my garden, I reckon it
would. As would reducing cats, which I *think* the RSPB say reduce
bird numbers? You can't have it both ways.
