long-term memory in seagulls?
Sun, 11 Jan 2009 14:23:11 +0000
There used to be a chicken farm two doors away from us, and the seagulls
often came to scavenge there. The farm was sold for development some 20
years ago, and ever since then there have been houses and bungalows
there - but the seagulls still come. They circle only over where the
farm used to be, nowhere el ...

Cosat Rica birds
Thu, 8 Jan 2009 14:39:45 -0000
Hi,
Just back from a visit to CR. I am very much an amateur birdwatcher but took
pictures of many different birds. Can anyone point me to an online guide
that lists the commoner species?
(heard but did not see the Quetzel!)
Thanks,
Gordon

Mystery bird with rocking flight
Wed, 7 Jan 2009 01:20:33 -0800 (PST)
Yesterday and this morning, I've seen a bird that I don't know how to
start identifying. Yesterday one was flying over my workplace in
Willingham, Cambs and this morning one flushed from the ditch at the
side of the road between Rampton and Willingham. Brown above, pale
below, with thin, swift-like wings. Simil ...

Unusual Garden Visitors
Mon, 5 Jan 2009 22:17:39 +0000
The overnight snow brought two unusual species into my Stotfold garden
today (Mon, 5/1) - unusual for my garden, that is.
This morning, there 5 redwings, turning over leaves under a malus, ~2 m
from the conservatory windows. Presumably, looking for and finding (they
were there for 20 mins or more) fallen fruits. ...

Do Moorhens eat Frog spawn
Sat, 3 Jan 2009 08:47:38 -0800 (PST)
Hi
I have just been asked by a friend if Moorhens Gallinula chloropus eat
Frog spawn. Having Googled a bit I would suspect that they probably
do. However nothing I have found confirms or denies the assertion
that they do.
Can anyone out there cast any more light on the matter?
Thanks in advance.
