Thu, 5 Mar 2009 08:47:40 -0800 (PST)
Dear birders
Since 9 months I have been experimenting with Social Media to connect
with birders all over the world. I am overwhelmed about the
possibilities these tools can bring birders.I was hoping to find some
of the people on this forum on Facebook and Twitter, but not many at
all are conncecting with other ...

tripod experiences please
Thu, 26 Feb 2009 23:11:09 -0000
Need a new tripod - the old one has a head which always jerks by one scope
field-of-view at the start of movement, then moves again when locking it and
I have put up with this for far too long (15 years!).
I tried out a Velbon Delta V at the weekend, and it was smooth enough, no
movement on locking, light eno ...

zoom eyepiece
Tue, 17 Feb 2009 20:57:06 -0000
I'm looking at upgrading my current scope. I was set against zoom eyepieces
as I thought that the quality was not nearly as good as with the fixed lens
but have to admit that I was impressed with the one I was looking at today
(a Swarovski 20-60 on a 65HD body). the chap in the shop assured me that
zooms were ...

mystery feathers
17 Feb 2009 18:36:18 GMT
Hiya!
Could anyone help me in identifying these feathers I found yesterday?
http://www.mahieu.org.uk/gallery/v/en/nature/birds/feathers/
The white feather was found in the same area but is unlikely to belong
to the same bird because of their relative wear and tear. It's the
first ones I am mostly interested in. ...

S. Lincs, 400 meteres from the Wash sea bank. It is extremely elusive so
I havn't seen it (yet)! For the recor ...

Red Kites (Milan Royale) in the Haute Sa?ne
Mon, 16 Feb 2009 07:14:28 -0800 (PST)
This weekend a dozen kites in magnificent plumage meandered over the
village in real slow time at about 15m altitude. I have rarely seen
more than 3 anywhere. I was equally surprised to watch a Great Egret
land in my neighbours meadow and quite quickly depart over the hill
forest. This makes 4 such birds sighted ...

Swan ice-breaker
Sun, 15 Feb 2009 20:30:50 -0000
I went to feed the swans on Bray Gravel Pit as I often do at a weekend but
found that the pair were on the other side and the lake had a few
millimetres of ice.
The swans seemed unsure of what to do. Or perhaps whether the effort of
getting across to me would be worth it. Eventually one swan developed a
tec ...
