Not coming back?
Thu, 11 Sep 2008 09:48:58 +0100
I was at our District Scout Section meeting last night, we were discussing
the District Activity Camp, long planned for 26- 28th Sept. and none of the
troops could say how many scouts, if any, were likely to be going. The
reason many gave was because they didn't know who would be in their troop
when most start ...

Explorers - Dump & Run
Wed, 10 Sep 2008 14:36:34 +0100
I'm looking to do a night navigation exercise with the Explorers. We'll
drop them about 6km from HQ and they then have roughly 90 mins to get
back to the hut. I should say that our hut is on the very edge of a
small market town so they will all be dropped in countryside on the
Welsh border.
I might turn it ...

There are teachers.... and then there are educators.
Mon, 08 Sep 2008 20:32:13 GMT
According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was
recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls had
begun to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine,
but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the
mirror leaving doze ...

REPROOFING A GROUND SHEET
Mon, 8 Sep 2008 04:43:53 -0700 (PDT)
I have a Vango Storm 400 which is a very well designed and made tent;
I've had it about eight years. The problem I discovered over the
weekend is that the integral ground sheet now lets in water. Anything
left on it, when lifted, shows a puddle of water. The material isn't
the modern very shiny stuff but a dull fi ...

Annual Accounts Query
Sun, 07 Sep 2008 22:29:44 +0000
For the past 14 years our accounts have been compiled by the treasurer
who has sent the books to a Ca for certification.
Tonight I just got a call saying that because the treasurer has
tallied everything up she can't do them this year. Yet what we have
sent is no different in structure from any previous year.

Badge Work
Sun, 7 Sep 2008 22:30:40 +0100
Its probably the phrase that makes me cringe in Scouting and that is the
phrase "badge work" and when leaders say it I wonder what they means
sometimes.
I get the impression, from other leaders and Scouts that "badge work" means
being in a Scout hut and going through the books as a tick box exercise that
ca ...
