Do (some) drivers concentrate?     Sun, 7 Sep 2008 21:24:40 +0100
Coming back from Berkshire to Somerset on the A303 this morning. Came through the 50 at Chicklade, back to 60 limit, and headed for the short, steep, climb that leads to the A350 junction with a camera half way up; the hill is three lanes - two up one down. In front of me 4 cars, then a car towing a carava ...

Red light question     Sun, 07 Sep 2008 21:21:54 +0100
Hi I was coming up to some traffic lights today, driving bang on the speed limit (40mph). They went amber when I was in the "zone of uncertainty". Just going through would have been the most sensible thing to do. However, given the following facts 1) I know there's a red light scamera there. 2) I already hav ...

Trailer Coupling Mirror     Sun, 07 Sep 2008 14:55:22 +0100
Is it possible to buy a mirror that can be temporarily stuck on to the rear window of my Ford Focus so that I can see the ball hitch linking up with the caravan hitch from the driving seat. I know you can get them that are permanently fitted to the trailer but I want one which I can stick to the outside of the r ...

Push and jump starting     Sat, 06 Sep 2008 19:53:25 +0100
Apparently you cannot push start an automatic, as the torque only transfers one way (although quite why engine braking works when I select a lower gear.....) Anyway the Honda manual I was reading was for the manual model also. And it said no push starting. Perhaps the design of the electronics is such that the en ...

Pushing the release button while APPLYING the handbrake?     Sat, 06 Sep 2008 19:27:21 +0100
Two people have told me they push the button when APPLYING the handbrake. I've never done this. A quick web search tells me that not pushing it can wear the cogs. I've never known the cogs to wear, only the cable, and using the button would make no difference to the cable. Opinions? -- http://www.petersparr ...

An MLOC is only an MLOC if he's inconveniencing other road users, which Ray wasn't. I know you're not used to thinking but you could try it ...
