Transport stats - how safe is cycling?
Tue, 30 Sep 2008 18:48:56 +0100
From cam.transport
On cam.transport, Nick McLaren, who seems to have his head screwed on,
presented this analysis of the latest transport stats:
http://www.dft.gov.uk/162259/162469/221412/221549/227755/rcgb2007.pdf
The results are in tables 7a and 7b (pages 82 and 84) for 2006; why
they
haven't produced th ...

The wind and the rain
Tue, 30 Sep 2008 15:48:40 +0100
8.25am, racing down an 8% hill, the wind and the rain seemingly going
as hard as possible in the opposite direction. Not for the
faint-hearted. Then a car driver pulls out into my path without even
looking vaguely in my direction. A few long seconds later, having
tested my new brakes to their limit, I was counting ...

London police tell motorists to drive straight at cyclists.
Tue, 30 Sep 2008 00:27:10 -0700 (PDT)
On the last Critical Mass ride in London some police dressed in
overalls not only attacked riders but told motorists to drive straight
at the cyclists to "Make them get out of their way". Is this the sort
of behaviour we have come to accept from our police?

Paging the FOAK
Tue, 30 Sep 2008 07:36:39 +0200
Those little spirally spring spacer thingies that do some voodo stuff
for QR skewers. What the fuck are they called before I break Google
completely with spazzed out search arguments?
And yes, I have mangled one, not the first either, so a packet of 1/2
dozen would keep me going into my dotage. ...

Replacing a cycle computer
Tue, 30 Sep 2008 01:05:43 +0100
Evening all,
As i was riding home last night, my computer came adrift from its clip
socket thing and went on a trip of its own across the road. It was a
Cateye Enduro 8, which are supposed to be able to handle rough conditions,
but 'rough conditions' apparently doesn't involve being run over by a
motorbike, ...

?38,000,000,000 for cycling
Mon, 29 Sep 2008 21:12:22 +0100
The cost of the Government's bail out of failed building societies
that thought they were banks is ¡ê38bn.
How would a ¡ê38bn investment in cycling in Britain change the choices
we make, and how could such an investment be made most effectively? ...

Crapman Is A MURDERER By Proxy
Mon, 29 Sep 2008 12:37:43 -0700 (PDT)
If someone campaigns for policies which they know to be killing
people, and their campaigning contributes to the implementation of
that policy, then I don't think any sane person would disagree that
they are therefore a murderer by proxy. Saddam and Hitler may never
have murdered anyone directly, but they knowing ...

Upright Recumbent?
Mon, 29 Sep 2008 19:08:48 +0100
I know it is a contradiction in terms but can anyone recommended a sort of
upright recumbent - the uprightest there is. I really want a recumbent but
the idea of being as low down as some specs suggest freaks me out!
I have been looking at the Cruzbike - are there any trikes suitable? I
don't mind looking a ...
