Solar/wind?
Sun, 27 Jul 2008 11:49:57 +0100
I have been thinking about getting a solar panel to keep a fridge runnning
and keep a battery charged while camping.
Has anyone any experience/opinions?
Also with energy prices being the way they are has anyone gone further than
this and installed solar in the home? Likewise with wind, a local electrical

Geodesic Tent?
Sat, 26 Jul 2008 14:53:56 +0100
Can anyone recommend a good value low cost geodesic type tent? I was
looking for a 2 man tent. It's just me that's going to be using it but
like the extra space. I'm going on a trip up to the highlands camping
in the wilds as well as doing a lot of fishing and walking.
Is it possible to get geodesic type of tent ...

Anyone find it strange...
Fri, 18 Jul 2008 20:22:25 +0100
That tents are fully guaranteed but not the fibre poles?
A tent is not a tent without poles.
We had a pole break the first time out and the shop wanted us to pay for
labour and materials.
After a discussion they agreed to sort it out for material cost only.
If every camper with a broken pole gets fobbed of ...

12v Coolboxes
Sun, 13 Jul 2008 19:59:41 +0100
I bought a 12v coolblox on Ebay, Royal brand. Took it camping along with a
standard one with some of those blocks you freeze and chuck in.
I didn't want to flatten the car battery so only had it running while the
engine was on, approx 2 hrs per day.
The other 'normal' box was significantly cooler with the freeze ...

Mini review - Keswick, Castlerigg Hall
Sun, 13 Jul 2008 19:44:49 +0100
A very nice site, good toilets/showers, handy shop, cafe, a kitchen where
campers could do their own cooking/washing up and a lounge.
People running it were friendly and helpful.
Only criticisms are that parts of the tent field aren't very level and
shower block cleaning times were variable but never earlier tha ...

Tent raining in
Sun, 13 Jul 2008 19:35:02 +0100
We have a Campus Indiana 8, it has only had a few weeks use in total and
until last week we have been very lucky with weather.
Last week however we spent a week in the lakes and it pissed down almost
every day with some prolonged heavy downpours.
I forgave it or letting some water in, or I would have if it wasn' ...

Internal poles
Sat, 12 Jul 2008 11:52:31 -0700 (PDT)
I bought a tent about ten years ago that had "integral" poles. That's
to say that the tent was like an umbrella in that it folded down and
went straight into the bag.
I'm looking to buy another bigger tent (now that I've got three kids)
but I don't know what this type of tent is called and so I can't
search for ...
