Alternator voltage regulator: symptoms     Sun, 7 Sep 2008 05:43:55 -0700 (PDT)
1995 Micra. Started up OK this morning, drove OK for a couple of miles. Then, the engine suddenly cut out at a *busy* junction. The car would not restart, ore even turn over. Symptoms were of a flat battery. Dashboard lights were out. The car has recently developed a tendency to stall at junctions, but has alway ...

Ford lock/key/immobiliser advice needed please!     Sun, 07 Sep 2008 01:24:08 +0100
My sons' 1997 Fiesta came with a black and a red key. I understand that the red key can be used to program the immobiliser chip in replacement black keys. The drivers door lock and boot lock are both dodgy, even after lubrication. I bought a complete new lock set (both doors, ignition, boot and petrol cap) ...

2002 VW Polo 1.4HDi - can it run on veg oil?     Sat, 06 Sep 2008 14:33:36 GMT
A frienmd of mine has just bought herself a 2002 Polo 1.4 HDi and is wondering whether it can safely run on vegetable oil. Anybody know the definitive answer? I know she could just try it but I believe some of the more expensive potential damage takes a while to show up... ...

Ford Fiesta 2002     Sat, 6 Sep 2008 06:38:54 -0700 (PDT)
Just been to look at this for the daughter, 57k miles, but n/s sill rusted through. Vendor to try to get it patched, but I am worried the rest of the sills may go soon, perhaps not undersealed properly? Anyone know if these cars prone to rotting so young? I have had Vauxhalls the last 20 years - no knowledge ...

Rover 214 Occasional Intermittent Misfire     Sat, 06 Sep 2008 13:11:48 GMT
Hello Group, I've been having an occasional misfire recently. It doesn't happen on every journey, but when it does it's like a learner kangaroo-hopping, and just lasts a couple of seconds. It doesn't happen across the rev range, only between idle and about 2,500 revs. Above 2,500 it doesn't happen. I can blast ...

VANOS rattle.     Sat, 6 Sep 2008 13:31:36 +0100
'94 525i E34. 180k Pretty certain that a rattle on starting from cold that lasts for a few minutes is coming from the single VANOS, rather than from the hydraulic cam followers. Apart from the startup rattle the engine seems in excellent condition. Pulls well. Quiet, and needs no oil between oil changes. ...

Astra locking     Sat, 6 Sep 2008 10:52:10 +0100
My daughter has an astra, which has central locking by the key, not remote. A strange thing is happening to it. About 1 time out of 10, the drivers door lock won't work. The key won't turn, it feels solid, I won't force it. After all, it's an M reg car, you expect a bit of stuff going wrong. This bit isn't th ...
