VANOS rattle.     Sat, 6 Sep 2008 13:31:36 +0100
'94 525i E34. 180k Pretty certain that a rattle on starting from cold that lasts for a few minutes is coming from the single VANOS, rather than from the hydraulic cam followers. Apart from the startup rattle the engine seems in excellent condition. Pulls well. Quiet, and needs no oil between oil changes. ...

Astra locking     Sat, 6 Sep 2008 10:52:10 +0100
My daughter has an astra, which has central locking by the key, not remote. A strange thing is happening to it. About 1 time out of 10, the drivers door lock won't work. The key won't turn, it feels solid, I won't force it. After all, it's an M reg car, you expect a bit of stuff going wrong. This bit isn't th ...

Scrap or repair?     Sat, 6 Sep 2008 10:39:08 +0100
I have a L reg MX-6 2.5 V6, it has a 'they all do that sir' fault with the distributor which is going to cost me at least ¡ê100 to fix. It is out of MOT, though it should pass without too much trouble as it has done VERY little work since it's last one. Cosmetically it's a good example, but given lack of time, th ...

fiesta gearbox problem     Fri, 5 Sep 2008 11:38:09 -0700 (PDT)
I'm a bit of an imposter on this group as my DIY car maintenance days are long since gone. However there may be someone out there who can advise me. Yesterday I was driving our X reg Fiesta when suddenly I was unable to get all the gears. There was no warning and no crunching sounds or anything like that. I st ...

Diesel emiissions - failed MOT     Wed, 03 Sep 2008 17:56:47 +0100
Hi all, my diesel Transit (N reg 160k miles 2.5 litre) just failed the MOT on its emissions. I've been told that the 30% cooking oil in the fuel may have been the problem. Other than using this up and filling with fresh diesel, is there anything else I can do to try and get it through the MOT? Cheers ...

Charging Issues     Wed, 3 Sep 2008 09:54:40 -0700 (PDT)
Hi Folks, I have a P10 Nissan Primera and would like any pointers on a charging issue I have. I have an intermittent flashing battery/charging light that comes on while engine is running. I have inspected the belt tension, replaced brushes/regulator and wiring and still have the issue. I'm currently cha ...
