advice on used car
Mon, 19 Oct 2009 00:02:09 +0100
Hi.. I`m looking into trading in my old escort for another car.
I`m on quite a tight budget so looking at cars marked up for about ¡ê3000 no
more.
Seems I`m looking at 6 - 7 year old astras or focus for around that mark.
But I have seen a 2004 54 HYUNDAI ACCENT 5door hatch for ¡ê3000. It looks in
mint condition ...

'94 Transit 2.5 turbo diesel.
Sat, 17 Oct 2009 00:53:37 +0100
Pal of mine has a motorhome based on a 15 year old Transit 2.5 turbo
diesel which is giving problems. It's very down on power throughout the
rev range. So far the garage has replaced the ECU at a cost of several
hundred with no improvment and now want to change the fuel pump for nearly
a grand.
I know little abou ...

Audi 100 2.3E avant 1988 fuel pump location
Fri, 16 Oct 2009 20:44:00 +0200
The car has been sitting for a while, and now the fuel pump does not
work (there is no buzzing sound). The car started, (I guess that there
was pressure in the system), then died, and will not start again.
I checked the fuse, and there is +12V for a few seconds every time I
turn the key. So I guess that the faul ...

Stiff micra gear lever
Fri, 16 Oct 2009 11:20:16 +0100
Our 8 yr old 1.3 Si Micra's gear change has started to get rather stiff when
the engine is warmed up. It seems to affect the side to side movement
rather than in and out of gear so I don't think it's a problem of a dragging
clutch.
Is this a common problem? Easy to fix or is it a sign of something more

Weird non-problem...
Wed, 14 Oct 2009 19:09:59 GMT
My E36 328i has just had a problem and recovered all by itself - I'm
wondering what it might have been and is it likely to happen again...
I'm guessing you'll need more information than that, so - it wouldn't
start last night. It turned over fine and fast, plenty of battery power
there. Didn't fire at all. Th ...

Will a diesel keep running without an alternator?
Wed, 14 Oct 2009 09:54:28 +0100
The alternator belt snapped on my 97 diesel astravan (think it had been
rubbing against the plastic cambelt cover). Battery light came on and I lost
the rev gauge but was near to home so not a problem. This got me thinking,
with it been a diesel would it keep going even if the battery was flattened?
It's the old m ...

Coil - OEM or pattern?
Tue, 13 Oct 2009 15:19:47 GMT
My newly acquired '03 1.6 Focus has a misfire. I've replaced plugs and
leads, and it's 95% better.
The old plugs were very much past their replacement mileage, so it's
likely that the HT coil has been damaged. (Common Ford scenario.)
I've always been an advocate of original parts, *but* an OEM coil from
