Vinyl roof supplier
Sun, 6 Jul 2008 11:52:42 -0700 (PDT)
A pal of mine has a Daimler Dart (SP250) with a rather scruffy hard
top. He's been wondering what to do with it, and is now thinking of a
vinyl covering. OK, it's dangerously reminiscent of spivvy Mark 2 Jags
of the 60's and crappy Hillmans from the 70's, but in this case I
agree with him - I think it could look r ...

Jim's Problem Minor
Sun, 6 Jul 2008 11:16:09 -0700 (PDT)
I was giving this some thought on a long drive (Dumfries to
Wensleydale and back) and here's what I came up with ...
To run, a nice simple old engine like the Minor's needs ...
a) Compression
b) Fuel
c) A spark and
d) For all of these to happen at the same time
So the next time it plays silly bugger ...

rebuild 'contract'
Fri, 4 Jul 2008 12:24:40 +0100
I've spent some time trying to source a 'new' classic and decided that all
those available are of too low a standard for what I'm after, so I'm
commissioning someone to build me one from scratch. Been to see the chap and
viewed a chassis/bulkhead that will eventually become my car and am very
happy with the st ...

New car, new problem
Fri, 4 Jul 2008 11:02:56 +0100
Sorry, deleted original thread about the Minor cutting out or not starting
when warm.
My money is on the petrol filler cap. Had exactly the same problem years
ago. Blamed the fuel pump initially, as it was seriously hot and famously
unreliable (SU - similar to yours?). Had to abandon the car one night, wen ...

finishing paintwork with clear coat
Thu, 3 Jul 2008 17:12:45 -0700
At some time in the past my classic has been resprayed and finished with a
clear lacquer coat. I have no experience working with this. There are
numerous small scratches, mostly only through the lacquer, but a few have
marked the paint. Can I spray paint on top of the lacquer, or is it likely
to peel. I am loo ...

Advice on battery acid
Thu, 03 Jul 2008 09:16:25 +0100
Hi,
I have just bought two! new dry batteries for my MGA and some bottles of
acid.
Can anyone suggest what precautions I should take.
My wife shall be getting nitrile gloves for me and I shall at last find
a use for the lab coat saved from school 20 years ago. I'll dig out some
goggles.
I'm planning to fi ...

Keeping the water out... leak sealer ??
Thu, 03 Jul 2008 08:51:09 +0100
HI All
Does anybody know if there's a leak-sealing product that can be used on
older cars to keep the rain _outside- rather than letting it find its
way _inside_ ??
My '64 Morris Traveller has one or two little places where persistent
rain (which we sometimes get out here in the far South-West of Ireland!) ...

Painting garage floor.
Wed, 2 Jul 2008 21:07:10 +0100
I'm in the process of building a wood garage for my 1948 Vauxhall 14 and had
the raft power floated to get a nice smooth surface. I intend doing the
floor with floor paint but after googling "Floor Paint" I find that the
majority of manufacturers don't recommend using paint on a power floated
floor without et ...

Hunting engine
Wed, 2 Jul 2008 16:42:57 +0100
Since my wifes 1985 escort was motted ,it has been sick. I suspect they have
damaged the carb mixture screw as the co analyser readout is extremely low
. The engine revs go up and down every second and screwing in the mixture
screw (VV carb) makes it worse . Haynes says screwing the mixture screw
weakens but is ...
