Real Player has gone mad
Tue, 02 Oct 2007 00:02:19 GMT
For months I have been happily using a downloaded JS file and inline script
to embed and control the parameters of SWF files which I use as mp3 players
with actionscript.
The last so.addParam controls the simple function auto-play; OFF but since
recent real player installations this has been taking over start ...

KML validation
Sat, 29 Sep 2007 12:37:01 +0100
I've just started serving some KML files, for example::
<http://www.westmidlandbirdclub.com/west-midland-bird-club.kml>
The Feed validator complains about the "description" elements:

Google AdWords campaign
Wed, 26 Sep 2007 17:54:20 +0100
I've been asked by a new client to set up a fairly complex and long-winded
Google AdWords campaign, and this isn't something I've done before.
Is there anyone out there who's a whizz at this (and has maybe used the
offline Adwords Editor) who might be wiling to give me a couple of half-hour
sessions over the pho ...

Favicons & IE7
Tue, 25 Sep 2007 10:50:42 GMT
I have had a problem getting a favicon to display in IE7 (Windows XP SP2),
and from Google I don't seem to be the only one. I tried the things I'd
seen suggested without any success - making the icon in different programs,
and putting different things in the html head. Also of course repeatedly
clearing the cach ...

Telephone numbers: to link, or not.
Sat, 22 Sep 2007 20:51:07 +0100
It's possible to display telephone numbers as:
<a href="tel:+442075555555">0207 555 5555</a>
I can't decide whether this is a a good idea or not. What about the
issues for novice users who will think the link should be clickable in
their default browser set up?

Browser Woes
Thu, 20 Sep 2007 19:48:46 +0100
What's a Mac user to do? FF leaks memory like an old sieve so I decided to
give Camino a try. I just went to the o2 site only to be told that my
browser needs updating. Probably it doesn't fall within the few that the
developers could think of when putting together some dirty browser sniffing
code.

Apache redirect questions
Thu, 20 Sep 2007 14:00:57 +0100
I'm using Apache.
I have a page at:
http://www.example.com/foo/bar/page.html
I would like to create an "alias" URL:
http://www.example.com/page
Should I use a 301 "permanently moved" redirect, from the later to the
former; or, given that nothing has actually moved, is there a better
