Importance of server location
Wed, 19 Aug 2009 22:16:11 +0200
I have a number of sites, some .com, .net, .co.uk and a couple of .fr
none of which are particularly region specific in terms of the audience
they are addressed at so does it really matter where they are hosted ?
Reason I ask is that the hosting company I am using in France for the
majority, whilst cheap, ...

Google business maps
Mon, 17 Aug 2009 12:23:47 +0100
On SEO testing;
http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&q=bretts+plumbing&meta=&fp=1&cad=b I get my
man #1 plus a mini google map at the top of the page. Is this map just
because he is local to me?
IE could someone well away from Herts/Cambs region give that result a click
and see if you get a map and address of "Br ...

Microsoft backs long life for IE6 - BBC
Fri, 14 Aug 2009 13:16:38 +0100
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8196242.stm
"The software giant said it would support IE6 until 2014 - four
years beyond the original deadline."
This apparent comment, below, made me check their own (Justin.tv)
site;

"Web developers hate IE6," said Evan Solomon of

My web site was hit by a phishing attach
Thu, 6 Aug 2009 16:51:00 +0100
Had an interesting (and hopefully not one to be repeated experience) this
morning. Got an email from my web host to say that my VPS account had been
disabled because there was a phishing site on it. That meant 22 sites were
switched offline.
Some toe rag had battled his way through the back door with a brut ...

Client copy sucks
Fri, 31 Jul 2009 20:25:10 +0100
First time this has happened so far.
New client has provided copy that has:
- a load of grammatical errors
- no metre
- little logical flow
- lots of missing punctuation
- several spelling mistakes
It's a first draft but I just don't know how to approach it. Obviously for
his benefit and mine we need to ...

Controlling Flash in the browser [OT?]
Thu, 30 Jul 2009 09:57:37 +0100
My perfectly-adequate laptop struggles to display fast flash animations,
and a site I regularly visit has a really annoying advert from
Volkswagen which (apart from being visually really irritating) uses far
too much CPU. At least VW have put a "Pause" button on the ad, but I'm
sick of web pages slowing down ...

Lost add on
Tue, 28 Jul 2009 18:13:11 +0100
A while ago, I think I remember some one here posting about an add on for
one of the browsers, IIRC Firefox, that showed web pages as and expandable
tree structure. You could click on elements on a give page and the add on
would show the code, or expand to the code. I had it installed but now I
seem not to, an ...
