Rescinding a Usenet message

Can someone tell me if it is possible to withdraw, rescind or cancel a
Usenet message after it has been posted? I am thinking of a situation
where a libellous statement is made and the person against whom the
libel has been committed demands its withdrawal.

There is a rapidly growing interest in and growth of ownership of the
Apple Ipod in the UK as elsewhere and I'm wondering if a new newsgroup
for Ipod users in the UK would be a viable proposition. I can find no
English language newsgroups dealing with the Apple Ipod.
