Sticky tape for exterior use.     Wed, 9 Jul 2008 19:05:25 +0100
I have found that the 50mm wide silver PVC cloth backed tape does not last very well when used outside. After a few years the silver PVC peels off leaving a sticky mess. What tapes last well when used outside - apart from self amalgamating tape? Would ordinary black PVC tape be better? -- Michael Ch ...

A word of warning to aerial installers     Wed, 9 Jul 2008 13:59:11 +0100
As we all know the building industry is in the doldrums. This will work through during the rest of the year. I was trading through the last three recessive periods, and I can tell you what is going to happen. You'll be really pleased when you secure that job to put a system in a block of flats. But when it com ...

Rigger's Diary     Wed, 9 Jul 2008 03:04:44 +0100
I'm having a hard week this week. Paul is off work, so I'm doing all his work as well as mine. I claim to be semi-retired, but here I am at 1.43am, having just finished work! It's funny how the big jobs that have been simmering away for months have all somehow reared their ugly heads right now, just when I'm t ...

Multiswitches - Triax or Labgear?     Tue, 08 Jul 2008 21:15:05 +0100
Would prefer to set a multiswitch into my system. Who do you prefer for multiswitches: Triax or Labgear? There's a substantial pricing differential at each input/ output model; I'm looking at either a 5/8 or 5/12 switch (input/ output) - usual application of a single quattro LNB and a combined terrestrial input ...

iPlayer and T-Mobile     Tue, 8 Jul 2008 07:29:52 -0700 (PDT)
So I got a little hooked on the BBC's lovely new iPlayer, but was distraught to discover that my ISP (T-Mobile) apparently hasn't registered its IP addresses correctly and the BBC think I'm not in the UK. I mailed T-Mobile and they said, "It's because we're a German company." Right, whatever. I could switch ...

TOT voice recognition software     08 Jul 2008 10:28:24 GMT
Someone on here is bound to have used some. :-) Well anyone? I have a friend who is an Osteopath and is rather taken with the idea of dictating case notes as she does an examination. I suspect Dragon is the only viable solution. Can it be turned on/off by voice command? Any input welcome. TIA -- Regar ...
