Top-up TV
Fri, 6 Jun 2008 06:00:25 +0100
Had a call from a persistent salesman pitching top-up tv for ¡ê9.00 per month
and I would get all my Sky channels included in this price. I have never
looked into topup tv, so decided to take a look at their website. The site
promotes more about the box than the actual channel content.
There is no definative cha ...

More4 higher resolution
Thu, 5 Jun 2008 22:09:25 +0100
More4 is transmitting at 704x576 resolution on D-Sat, rather than the normal
544x576. All the other channels on the transponder are still 544x576.
The bit-rate seems to be increased too.
Hopefully Channel 4 will convert all their channels to 704 soon (here's
hoping, but unlikely as they already have seven chan ...

Understanding CAI benchmarked aerial categories
Thu, 5 Jun 2008 18:00:37 +0100
How much stock do the professional installers place in the CAI aerial
benchmarking scheme? I receive DTT from Reigate 6 miles away, which seems to
be powered by an AA battery, plus I'm in a dip behind some trees. Installers
hate my site and won't guarantee anything when quoting.
I'm willing to stick up my own ...

Lidl/Aldi decoder in place of Sky box?
Thu, 05 Jun 2008 13:22:04 +0100
Could I replace my Sky box by a cheap decoder,
eg one that comes with a camping satellite system
from Lidl or Aldi?
Ie, could I just unplug my Sky box
and plug in one of these in its place?
I actually have a two-room Sky system,
with two Sky boxes,
and I'm thinking of replacing one with a FTV/FTA box,
but as ...

Infrared remote switching of my dish between Freesat & Sky Boxes?
Thu, 5 Jun 2008 02:36:22 +0100
At the moment Freesat looks like the best way for me to try HD, as I don't
want to increase my Sky subscription. But I don't want to lose my basic Sky
package either, so I would need to share my dish between a Freesat box and a
Sky box.
There appears to be no dish loop through on the Freesat boxes, and I can't

OT: Depressing Britain???
Thu, 5 Jun 2008 00:04:00 +0100
Is it just me, or is the UK a depressing place to be nowadays? It seems the
UK is all doom and gloom and depressing all the time.
Gosh this country needs a change of leadership and a change of direction.

Are Maplin's Cheap FTA DSat Boxes any Good?
Wed, 04 Jun 2008 21:04:29 +0100
As in the title.
After my bad experience with Freesat boxes, I'm looking at going down
the FTA box route. Maplin have a few for well under 50 quid. Sounds like
good value.
Does anyone have any experience with these? Is the picture ok; are they
easy to set up/use, etc? Not so worried about the setup as long ...

Bill wright, help please, HDTV meter.
Wed, 04 Jun 2008 14:47:50 +0200
Bill I did ask this question in another post, but got no takers. I am
buying a Promax Explorer. The basic one is about ¡ê1500 but does not do
DVB-S2, the Explorer II does, but is another ¡ê750.
I read somewhere you can get a good indication of HDTV signal quality,
by reading a adjacent, standard DVB channels quali ...

TV license from Thomsons SA & RCA
Wed, 4 Jun 2008 20:24:04 +0800
It said all TV (regardless mono or colour, analogue or digital) suppliers
must pay the TV license fee to Thomsons SA & RCA for each unit on sale due
to the fact that TV was invented by them and they own the patent. Can
anyone know the detail about it. I am wondering the patent should expire
already since TV ...
