sound level variation
Wed, 4 Jun 2008 19:16:34 +0100
Is it just me, or is the sound level control all to pot on an increasing
number of occasions these days?
I don't just mean the advert.s being louder - I mean the voice-over
announcement that says what's coming next (or whatever) - I'm sure that, not
at all long ago, the programme material was faded down sligh ...

hungry DAB
Wed, 4 Jun 2008 19:01:58 +0100
I was amused to see in a recent Maplin flyer, a wind-up DAB and FM radio.
I was amused because it tells you "1 hour FM for 60 seconds of winding" -
but doesn't mention how much DAB. (I'd also be surprised if the hour is
true, but that's by the by.)

Documentary music level
Wed, 4 Jun 2008 17:13:12 +0100
We have sent another letter to the BBC about the loudness of the "music"
that drowns out the narrative on documentary type programs, it's getting to
the point of silliness where a viewer (listener) cannot hear what is being
said because of the high level of tonal effects.
Once again we have recommended that d ...

Trinidad+Tobago (England friendly match)
Mon, 02 Jun 2008 09:25:34 GMT
Did I spot an HL79-series Ikegami last night?
Some of the pictures were quite horrid, the 'tunnel' camera
particularly, but others were rather nice. The link didn't do it any
favours though. I've a feeling it was analogue originated, but could be
wrong.
It was rather nice to see non-wobbly pics from a spor ...

RF Amp Advice
Sun, 01 Jun 2008 23:05:26 +0100
We're in a valley, so reception here is pants. So I need an amp for
domestic TV reception. It doesn't have to be mast top - I have power
in the loft, just below the aerial, not to mention at the end of the
down cable.
Who makes good ones, and where can I buy one?
Thx

Catastophic failure on ITV
Sat, 31 May 2008 02:48:30 +0100
As I write this ITV 2, 3 and 4 have been on a static caption for more than
half an hour on both Sky and Freeview. ITV 1 is ok on Sky and Analogue, but
it's a black screen on Freeview, and I know my reception of the ITV Freeview
multiplex is ok because I'm getting Channel 4 on Freeview fine (tx Crystal
Palace). ...
