However, it just does not seem right that you can play a provisional ball,
then decide not to look for the original!

Good old A,B & C are playing a competition round. On a Par 4 hole all 3
players play their second shots. A says to B "What did you hit?" B replies
"A seven". C observes that A&B have breached Rule 8.1. A replies that, since
