Range finder binoculars
Thu, 02 Aug 2007 10:14:09 -0000
Went out for 9 holes with the pro last night and he had a pair of
range finder binocs in his bag.
Never seen them before never mind tried them.
Great fun. Really helped in comparing my estimated yardage with actual
(assuming the binocs were accurate)
I found that we were both very close in yardage up to 100ya ...

Flag competition
Wed, 1 Aug 2007 17:06:45 +0100
Today we played a flag competition - first flight out took the flag and last
to use up the shots (and brings in the flag) wins. OK. The strange thing,
to me, is that it was played as a qualifying comp. Everyone had to complete
18 holes (for handicap) even though they had used up all their strokes in
the fla ...

Testing the green, marking with a tee-peg
Wed, 01 Aug 2007 10:29:15 -0000
I have heard several people discussing whether it is legal to mark
your ball on the green with a tee-peg. The objection being that as
that goes further into the ground than a normal ball marker it may be
construed as testing the firmness.
I can see nothing in the rules to oppose this practise but I can see
argu ...

Assistance in getting to sleep

No, I don't read the RoG or count sheep.
I play my course in my mind imagining that I am either a very long
driver (285yds), very solid and reliable mid-iron player, superb short-
game specialist, or an excellent putter who expects to knock in many
from the 10ft and inside range.
I then work out which is the ...

Ashbury GC, Okehampton
Mon, 16 Jul 2007 11:02:22 -0700
Hi All,
I'm off to the Manor House Hotel in Okehampton in Devon in a couple of
weeks. The sister hotel (Ashbury) down the road has LOTS of golf (I've
been there before).
However, this time, of the group going, there's only me to play golf.
2 questions.
1. Is anyone else on the group at The Manor House (o ...

Provisional Ball
Mon, 16 Jul 2007 11:16:23 GMT
I have read 27-2b/1 and 27-2c/2
However, it just does not seem right that you can play a provisional ball,
then decide not to look for the original!
We had this in a match at the weekend. Original ball hooked left.
Provisional ball smashed miles down the centre. Opponent walked straight to
the provisional ...

Etiquette
Sun, 15 Jul 2007 17:27:06 GMT
At 5 on a Wednesday evening quite a crowd had assembled on the 1st tee.
There was a midweek Medal, some 2-balls playing in various comps, and some
social golfers. Everyone had put a ball in the "chute" to indicate their
turn in the queue.
Up comes a young tiger and announces, to the world in general, that he ...
