Amp levels

Someone has told me that you should turn your amp up to full, then connect
your mixer and adjust the volume with it and the gain. Is this reccomended?
I always turn my amp halfway then the mixer the same. What do others do?

When to play Xmas songs

When do you first play your Xmas songs? You know those cheesy ones like
'wish it could be xmas every day' rockin around the xmas tree' 'merry xmas
everyone' etc
I got a gig on the 30th Nov is that too early? the next one is a work party
on the 14th so might wait til then. What say you all?
