Dirty fretboard

I've just acquired one of these...

and although it is in nice order, the fingerboard is rather grubby and needs a realy good strings off clean. The grubbiness is greasy stuff left by dirty fingers (I guess).
My temptation is to clean it with meths or something similar a ...
