Dirty fretboard

and although it is in nice order, the fingerboard is rather grubby and needs a realy good strings off clean. The grubbiness is greasy stuff left by dirty fingers (I guess).
My temptation is to clean it with meths or something similar a ...

First of all apologies as this is probably very obvious, but I seem to
have a lot of difficulty absorbing other people's playing techniques,
despite having been playing for longer than I care to mention.
Okay, so my question... there's this thing you hear Eric Clapton do a lot
which is probably just a simple ham ...

PSU socket polarity on a Magicstomp?

I bought an Acoustic Magicstomp from the states, and it came with a US style PSU so
I had to buy a replacement from Maplins.
Trouble is, there is no indication in the manual or on the Magicstomp which way
round the polarity is on the input socket. Quick Google turns up no info either and
Yamaha offices closed ...
