Cutting a nut

So you're cutting a new nut for a guitar.
Do you space the nut slots so that they are equally spaced from
centerline to centerline or space the slots so that there is equal
spacing between strings?

Heard this last night.
Steve Caban and Jimmy Egypt have taken over the old CC music / AOS / Sound
Control Store in Otago street and are re-opening it as CC Music again.
I'm told that 21st June will be the grand re-opening.
