Sky+ connections

My Sky+ box is set up so that the terrestrial aerial lead is connected to
the "aerial in" socket on the box and then from the "rf out 1" to the tv.
Is there any reason why the aerial lead cannot be connected directly to the
tv rather than via the Sky+ box please?

I have 2 questions please that I find I (with my limited undestanding

I am about to get sky+ but am worried about stories of how reliable
boxes are. Which is the best box to get and use in terms of how
reliable it is and how quiet? Which is the best manufacturer?
