EEE PC901 WiFi reservations
Mon, 18 Aug 2008 11:54:58 +0100
When I ordered a 901, I got a 900 by mistake. Not realising this for a
couple of days, I ran it up and was delighted with it. However, I had
ordered an Atom powered model and sent the 900 back.
The 901 is equally fine in every respect except one, the Wifi is very flaky
and gives a 45% signal strength when about ...

NAS appliance or home server
Fri, 15 Aug 2008 16:54:24 +0100
I've been meaning, for some time, to provide some sort of storage
server for the motley collection of computers -- some Windows and some
linux based -- that lurk around here. The primary requirement is that
it be able to run headless, and that it support both samba/cfs and NFS
from a RAID-1 array (probably 2x7 ...

X screen blanker causes rolling picture on LCD?
Thu, 14 Aug 2008 21:33:19 +0100
I have half a dozen machines connected to an Iiyama 17" LCD using a KVM.
Five run CentOS 5.1 and one runs Fedora 6. They all exhibit the same
problem. Previously they ran a mixture of earlier OSes with no
problems.
When sitting idle at the X login screen, eventually some timer expires
and the machines enter ...

Syncing calendar with Nokia phone
Thu, 14 Aug 2008 10:17:46 +0100
Are there any Linux-based tools that allow syncing of calendar data
(i.e. appointments) with my nice and shiny nokia E51?
I currently use the lightening extension to thunderbird with my data
stored on google calendars. Something that integrates well with that
would be perfect.

UKPost?
Tue, 12 Aug 2008 20:11:11 +0100
Hi,
I know Jason posted something on the ukpost website about moving to somewhere else for users, but I've not had any emails (webmail or otherwise) for almost 36 hours.
Is anyone else having a problem with it or is it me? If I ping either mail.ukpost or smtp.ukpost, both are returned fine, so the servers are r ...

Netvista crashes revisited
Mon, 11 Aug 2008 23:49:09 -0700 (PDT)
Dear All,
Several of you offered some help with my crashing problem - a Netvista
which repeatedly hung while running Ubuntu. Hung as in "stopped dead"
- nothing in the logs, no ssh access from outside, nothing. I was
advised to check the hardware and sure enough, reseating a displaced
video card seemed to do th ...

Sun, 10 Aug 2008 11:51:49 +0100
Has anyone here got any recommendtions/warnings on NAS drives, please?
I'm looking for something around 300 GB; its main use will be for
transporting my data between various locations. I guess USB mght be an
option, but I rather prefer the idea of ethernet.
Cheers,

Suse 11 - Dual Screens
Sat, 09 Aug 2008 20:09:21 +0100
I use wide spread sheets and set my windows to display dual screens so
that I can see the whole sheet without scrolling.
I have a copy of Suse 11 and would like to experiment with it but
unless I can use the dual screens I wont be happy. Is this possible?
