Partitioning hard drives...
Mon, 23 Jun 2008 15:13:04 +1200
Good afternoon from New Zealand.
I currently run LinuxMINT.
My computer has 2 x 200GB hard drives (one IDE and the other SATA), and I
seek advice as to the best way to partition them. Here is what I would like
to do.
IDE drive - partition as follows:
/boot/ext3 (would 100 MB be enough)
/root/ext3 (would 5 ...

There is a web-site, pages generated by asp, from which I want to
download a daily file. I have am registered with the site, and I pass my
login details to wget thus:

Breaking into Ubuntu
Fri, 20 Jun 2008 07:29:52 -0700 (PDT)
A friend of mine has asked me about a friend of his (no, really) who
has just inherited - literally - an Ubuntu machine from his father.
Unfortunately, he didn't any note of usernames or passwords. I've been
asked what the best way to recover stuff from it is.
My first suggestion was to boot from a live CD and g ...

Hard drive imaging
Fri, 20 Jun 2008 12:50:47 +0100
Hi
I presently use Drive Image on my old Windows box. Yesterday after trialling and
removing a network monitor, it did a lot of damage but I was able to restore an
image and add a few up-todate files and was back up and working again in just
over 2 hours. Now before finally binning it, I want exactly the same f ...

eeepc+wifi+Wetherspoon
Fri, 20 Jun 2008 08:57:06 +0000
I have an eeePC 701. When I bought it I went to the nearest Wetherspoon pub
and tried out the wireless. It worked straight out of the box with the free
WiFi via the Cloud. It worked with my WPA encrypted wireless at home but
then wouldn't work in the pub. I installed the latest madwifi drivers plus
the wpa_supplic ...

Dear All,

Thinkpad R40e. It works fine - and is normally used - on my Eee with
eeeXubuntu (7.10) but doesn't work at all on the Thinkpad with Ubuntu
8.04. That is, it doesn't show up as a USB mass storage device and the
Vodafone Connect Card ...

extending an "extended" partition
Tue, 17 Jun 2008 16:07:25 +0100
Long story but basically:
Installed a 250GB second HDD (hdb)
Partitioned the drive as 3 primaries and an extended partition (hdb4)
The extended partition (hdb4) then divided into 5 extended partitions all
with different linux distros on.
Only then did I realise that my (old) BIOS only recognised 137GB of the ...
