Mounting external USB disk

Dear All,
I'm getting a bit confused. Any help would be welcome.
Here's what I am trying to do:
Automatically backup my /home partition to an external USB disk
Here's how I tried to do it - Ubuntu 9.04
* Label disk USB-EXT
* Connect it. Appears as /media/USB-EXT

I've just attempted to replace my savage S3 pci video card with an AGP
GV-R9200NF someone gave me. I tested it first with a Ubuntu jaunty
live cd and it detected fine after an initial reseating.

Finding IP of a network printer

Using Ubuntu 9.04. I have a networked printer on the network. is there a
tool that will show me the IP address of the printer? (I actually know
it, but it would be handy if I needed to add a networked printer when
joined to another network...)
