A friend's Vista SP1 PC is failing to install Windows Updates and also some
other updates such as those for Itunes. The symptom is that the updates get
downloaded but the installation phase never finishes (he's left it for 12
hours!). In the case of the Windows Updates, there are several updates that

I am in the UK, using the 3 mobile phone network to connect to the internet,
with 3's dongle. However, recently I had a very poor connection for a few
days, and bought the O2 dongle to use as insurance for when 3 goes down. But
the software is such that for the O2 dongle to work, the 3 software has to

Choosing the correct size UPS for a PC
Mon, 20 Jul 2009 13:26:44 +0100
I realise that a UPS with a higher power rating will drive a given load (eg
a PC and monitor) for longer on battery, but what about choosing the power
rating to avoid overloading?
My girlfriend bought an 800 VA (540 W) UPS and finds that the UPS cuts out

How upgrade old AMD socket-A system?
Sat, 18 Jul 2009 17:26:57 +0100
I want to get a faster cpu but not one that is very hot or which must
have a bigger PSU. I once thought of getting an AMD Athlon . I'm in the
Uk.

into my mobo maybe without a PSU upgrade or more cooling.

Where is this "access point"? Is it just the computer with the wireless
router?

Trojan advice please
Mon, 06 Jul 2009 12:32:01 +0100
I'm using Kaspersky AV, version 7.0.0.125, database updated every

neutralised a Trojan, clicker.html.iFrame.ail, located in
D:\RECYCLER\S-[long string of numbers and hyphens]\Dd483.html, and
another one of the same type in the same location and with a ...

I have one of these and a couple of weeks ago, we had a visitor with her
lap top who commented that she could detect a very strong wifi signal.
Could she hack into this?
I am more concerned about those that live around me though. I want to
shut them out. How do I go about it?
