DVD writer drive cannot read data CDs that it has created

I've replaced a defective DVD writer drive (could read/write CD-Rs but not
CD-RWs) with a new one and installed Nero 7 that came bundled with it.
The drive can successfully write data and audio CDs to CD-R and CD-RW but
while it can play audio CDs that creates, it cannot read data CDs that it
has created.

Have you ever seen a Vista PC where suddenly one day the initial Windows
password (which has been used many times before) is deemed to be incorrect?
It was the only user that was defined, and even in Safe Mode it was the only
one offered - not like XP where Administrator is offered as an alternative

Vista reboots instead of shutting down or hibernating
