Raid Question
Tue, 10 Mar 2009 09:21:54 -0700 (PDT)
Possibly the wrong groups, but not too sure where to post this
question. A friend of mine has a Raid array, with three 146gb drives
in a compaq server, and then three 36gb drives, below that. The drives
were not re done, as the originals were the 36's, and they were just
swapped around in the cage they are in, the ...

Netgear DG834G snmp
Mon, 9 Mar 2009 19:06:48 +0000 (UTC)
When I telnet to my Netgear router 'ps' shows that snmpd is running.
It doesn't however respond to any snmpget requests and 'nmap' shows port
161 as closed.
I can't find an snmpd.conf file on the router so I don't know where the
community string is stored or even if the conf file is necessary.
I recently upgrad ...

Laptops and networking
Fri, 6 Mar 2009 14:36:34 -0000
Probably a silly question, but can you have a laptop as a host computer, and
run another laptop on a wireless connection from it? Or does it have to be
a PC? I think both are running Vista Basic. (I'm asking on behalf of a
friend)
Many thanks.

Router/Wireless problem?
Tue, 3 Mar 2009 13:16:04 -0000
I've just formatted and reinstalled XP HE SP3 on an Acer laptop, and Vista
Basic SP1 on a Packard Bell machine, for two friends. Neither laptop could
detect my wireless network, despite being only a couple of feet from my
router, a 3Com (US Robotics) OfficeConnect ADSL Firewall Router. And yet, on
returning ...

Access point as a "network card" ???
Fri, 27 Feb 2009 01:01:12 -0000
Picked up an old 3com 7250 wireless access point... and would like to
install it on a wired LAN, and persuade it to act like a "network card"
i.e..... use it to connect to a wireless router, so the wired LAN can get
onto the internet via the router, is this possible ?
I would prefer NOT to use WDS...
Any i ...

Networking issue between XP Pro and Vista
Sat, 14 Feb 2009 09:41:34 -0800 (PST)
This is the scenario... two computers, one running windows xp pro, and
the other running windows vista home (dont tell me, I know it is
horrible, not my choice, or I would have gone for XP!). The printer is
on the vista one,
which the xp one used to be able to print to. There is plenty of this
information online ...

Hi,
Does anybody know of software that will monitor network interfaces on a
machine and throttle bandwidth accordingly? i.e. If a 1Gig limit is reached
by a certain time of day throttle or deny access to the web?
Thanks.

Wifi puzzle?
Wed, 04 Feb 2009 22:58:46 GMT
The likes of Netstumbler and my connections own monitor show my signal
strength from my access point as quite strong and connected at full
speed - but that is never the entire story.
That just shows how well I am receiving the access point, not how well
the access point is receiving my PC's signal. Often I ha ...
