ftp between computers on lan

I've just been brought a computer to "fix".
It's a p3, 128MB ram running W98se with 6GB hdd, 4.48GB unused.
Problems were unspecified other than the browsers (IE & firefox)
didn't work. There was no firewall or AV software. I loaded AVG and
some instances of Startpage virus were found and healed but firefox

Aimed at anyone that knows of or uses Hamachi ....
I've noticed that whilst running Hamachi with two other family members on
the one netowrk .... that the firewall logs shows continous Hamachi traffic
flow even when nothing is happening across the Hamachi Network

I have BT Max ADSL a FritzBox 7140 VOIP router and a 2Wire 2700 HGV (aka BT Business Hub) router.
On my long line the 2wire router syncs @ 1900, much faster than the FritzBox (@ 800-900). This makes
a considerable difference to the download speed.
But I need the VOIP functionalty in the FritzBox.

NTL Cable modem -> Linksys WRT54GS wireless router -> PC (hard wired).
Hardwired into the router is a 300GB NAS drive (with 2 USB ports).
